Private posts, and why they stay private

To see a private post, the platform requires an authenticated session belonging to an account that has been granted access. That is not a technical obstacle we could clever our way around — it is the entire point of the privacy setting. We deliberately do not log in as anyone, which means private content is invisible to us in exactly the same way it is invisible to a logged-out visitor. Any site claiming to download private posts is either asking you to hand over your credentials, or it simply does not work. Both are worth walking away from.

  1. Check whether the post is actually public: open it in a private/incognito window. If you cannot see it logged out, neither can we.
  2. If it is your own content, download it from the platform’s own export or archive feature instead.
  3. If someone shared it with you, ask them to send the file directly — that is faster than any tool.
  4. Never enter your account password into a downloader site. That is how accounts get stolen, and no legitimate tool needs it.

Not without your login credentials. Any site promising it is either phishing or lying about what it does.
Why not just add a login option?
Because it would mean storing or handling your credentials, and a leaked session token can cost you the whole account. We would rather not have that responsibility.

Yes, but through the platform’s own download or data-export tool, which is designed for exactly that.
What about friends-only or close-friends posts?
